1986 BMW E30 M3

The BMW E30 is arguably on of the best sports cars of the 1980s. It competed in DTM motor sports in Germany against rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz 190E. Some BMW enthusiasts believe that this first generation was the best of all the M3 models due to it being built specifically to homologate the model for racing. The BMW M3 would start a frenzy of German compact sports sedans from other manufactures such as the Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 evolution models and Audi S4. Other manufactures around the world would use this first generation M3 as inspiration for future sports coupes. In contrast the E30 is powered by a 4-cylinder engine and future models of the M3 would use inline 6-cylinder engines and now currently the M3 is powered by a V8 engine. When discussing The top sports cars of the 1980s any true automotive enthusiast would include the BMW E30 M3.
